This Is What a Camera Is Good For

It helps you to remember that there are such things as...

SUN!

Yes, I remember sun.  That yellow blob in the sky that emits light upon us.  Look here...

See, there are patches of brightness that can be seen on the moss steps. (btw - I think I would be cautious trying to visit these same moss steps again - with all the rain we've been having - I'm thinking the moss may just become sentient and rather rambunctious)

BLUE SKY!!!  I do believe! I do believe!

Now if only I had ruby slippers or something like that...

Of course this dude looks like he's up to no good.  Especially when he has the sun slanting upon him just this way...

Oh well, it's Friday!  Even if we've now gotten about 2 more inches of rain just today, it's time to kick back and relax before I start building an ark.

Be On the Lookout!

After posting my headlines of the day, it suddenly occurred to me, we will all be better off when giving descriptions if we go with the Gag Halfrunt method of description when calling 911 to report a possible crime...

Zaphod's just zis guy, ya know?

Yep, I think that about covers it.

I'm sure the police will be delighted with your help in reporting criminals and if they aren't - at least you can then call the news media liars when they report you were being a racist bigot.

Heh.

Patches and Headlines...

First off - Microsoft released some "out of band" patches - not on their regular cycle of first Tuesday of the month. This is because Blackhat is meeting this week and revealing a vulnerability. Sooooo... if you have not patched your system yet - please do so immediately. Thank you!

We now return you to our regularly scheduled blog post.

****

Because I've been so busy I can think of nothing else to blog, here are your headlines.

Well of course. What else could it be.

911 caller in Gates case says she's glad truth is out

Lesson 1: if the perps are black - do not mention this under any circumstances, even to describe the suspects to police.

Lesson 2: the news media will make up their facts to fit the story narrative

Lesson 3: people from Cambridge can't bring themselves to criticize the media even when said media makes up a story nearly ruining a life.  Amazing.

If you will excuse me, I'm going to watch more Monty Python clips on youtube.  Because I can.

More Flowers Because I Can

Well, Monday is nearly over (yes, I'm optimistic that I can make it through the next hour and 15 minutes without anything truly dire happening... just call me Pollyanna)

Since I've been so busy, today all I have are flower pictures.  I don't have the energy to do anything else and these didn't get posted yesterday, so you get them today. Lucky you!

First we have a teeny tiny weed flower.  The actual weed is rather tall, but the flower looks like an extremely miniature daisy.

This one is nearly blooming (for that matter probably is blooming today)

I think this next one is a newly blooming cone flower, but I'm not sure.

One of the houses we walk past has some kitschy gardening going on.  I always laugh when I see her little garden statues.

What are a bunch of flower pics without having some day lilies... some very large day lilies.

And I will end here on a very nebulous looking weed flower.  Not sure where I took that or even what it is.  Does make a nice delicate flower picture though.

So there are your flowers for the day.  Hope everyone finds them restful.

Now I'm getting off the dratted computer (have been online most of the weekend) and I'm going to read a real book for a while.  Now there's something different.

Photo Therapy

Well, it's been a particularly annoying last few days.  That means we need more pictures!

The roses, the roses, they bloom!

You can see above that the bees are having a high old time.  Good to know I'm not the only one enjoying the flowers.

Our horse friend...

No this is not the same picture from the last 3 times.  I just find it hilarious that this horse stands right there every time we walk past and peaks over the gate.

The bird houses look a bit happier with some flowers around them.  (in winter they look a bit forlorn)

We ran across this turtle slowly making its way across the street.

My husband gave him a bit of a shove with his foot to get him over to the side quicker.  We were astounded he hadn't been hit by a car.

Oh let's see more roses!  (because I can)

I'm wondering if I'm supposed to deadhead them.  Then I wonder if I care too much.  Heh.

Our ornamental grass really really really loves all the rain.  Yes, that is a standard sized post light about 6 ft tall.

Of course I can't resist - one of the coneflowers in close up.

And... a green-eyed susan???  I'm not sure.

Lots of people out and about whenever they spot a bit of sun.  Someone had just finished fishing on the pond and pulled out the canoe.

Here we have some kayakers finishing up a spin around the lake.

And the local "pick your own berries" farm had lots of business.  Of course heaven forbid you actually walk from the parking lot back to where the berries are growing... nope they will trundle you along in a wagon, if you so prefer.

Personally I would end up stark raving mad - not to mention very very hot - it moves so slowly.  I'll walk.

There you go.  I hope if your weekend is a bit hectic, you can look at the pics and relax a bit.

Time for me to get off the computer now.

I Swear I Had to Look Twice

I saw this headline on my news feed (no I haven't read it - no time today)

Mayors, rabbis arrested in NJ corruption probe

And I swear I thought it said

Mayors with rabies arrested in NJ corruption probe

Close enough I guess, but not quite on the mark.

All the Little Pictures

Are up over at my Smugmug site.  These are the acceptable (so to speak) shots from last Saturday's World Wide Photo walk.

Have a look and let me know if you see one for me to send in to the contest.  I have until Saturday to decide.

The glove will definitely be in (with a little fix up help from Joanie who knows how this stuff works way better than I do).  I can do one more though...

Weather or Not

I am not a weather watcher. I only tune into the Weather Channel when I have something specific to check out - like - I'm trying to fly... is it REALLY going to rain? Or something like that.

I do periodically check out NOAA if I hear from my husband that we'll be getting rain. I just plug in my zipcode and it gives me a forecast.

I have to wonder who writes these. After a while they MUST get punch drunk or maybe drunk for real... or maybe it's a computer writing it. Personally I like to think it's someone with a really skewed sense of humor. After all, look at our forecast for tomorrow:

Tuesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then showers between 1pm and 2pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 70. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Showers, then showers, then showers. I read these and giggle. It's the only thing I find funny about the weather lately. I think I've been working too much or something.

Some Light Entertaining Reading

Over at Instapundit, Glenn is talking about Robert Heinlein's juvenile books.  (I loved just about all of them and would be quite happy to read them all again, even as an adult).  But he doesn't mention my favorite - more of a novelette than a novel.

Double Star

If you've never read it, I can absolutely recommend it no matter what your age.  To me it's the best story he ever wrote.  It's not long, so if you can get hold of it, read it and certainly...

Enjoy!

The World Wide Photo Walk

On Saturday morning I pulled myself out of bed and took part in the second annual World Wide Photo Walk.  I was going to give it a shot (so to speak) last year, but when I looked - early on in the process - the closest walk was in Providence, RI.

I had just gotten my camera a few weeks before, the closest place I could see for a photo walk was either Boston or Providence, and they start at 8:30am...

Um... No!

This year when I checked it out, I found a group in Worcester, MA - 15 minutes drive tops - and they had 4 openings left.  Each group is limited to 50 people.  So I signed up.

Therefore on Saturday morning I was up and out the door and meeting at least 50 new people before 9am... Holy cats!

I have a bunch of pictures to upload to Smugmug.  Many are buildings and street scenes.  Almost boring one would say except, after reading Lileks for ages and now Shorpy, I hope that one day some of these will have that incredible nostalgia thing going - even if I'm not half the photographer the old film dudes were.  (I'm quite sure stranger things have happened)

Of course it was RAINING!!!! Although most of the walk it was misty and humid (not anywhere near as humid as it is down at Dogette's place but humid nonetheless). I came prepared and I did have a plastic bag to put over my camera.

Here are a few of the many pics...

As you can see - no one in their right mind was up and about on a Saturday morning.

Not only strange food... but reflections! Yes that's me on the left in the window. Heh.

This, of course, looks bad for blue gloves everywhere. Now we know... all those places supposedly meant to allow access to water pipes.  Yeah, just look at the ring around it.

Don't miss the bus...

Damn good thing I left my skates at home.

Let's just pause and reflect...

Okay, sorry I couldn't resist.

I shall be putting up the rest later, but this is a small sample.  Nothing earthshaking.  I have to pick one to enter into the contest.  Oh dear... a choice of dull, duller, and dullest I guess.  I have a few days so I'm thinking about it.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
