Still Poking Around with Tone Mapping

Not that I had forgotten it, I just haven't had time. But today I saw a post at DPS and a contest to give away Trey Ratcliff's series on HDR. Odds of winning... negligible. Even with only 2 people in the contest the odds would be negligible. But it did remind me to try out the tone mapping again.

You can click for the larger image if you want. Not bad considering my ISO had somehow mysteriously set itself super high (1600). heh. I really need to keep an eye on my camera settings. Geeze. I've also been using my 50mm f1.8 lens lately - fixed length means taking different shots.

Fun with pictures.

Horsing Around

We went for a walk past the horse farm today.  Because it is dark so early, we walked early and therefore saw the horses out and about.

This one didn't want anything to do with us.

But this one ambled right on over.

Stuck his head right over the fence.

I think he wanted a snack, but we didn't have anything. He was not pleased.

We looked around and there was yet another horse watching us, but he was farther from the road.

We looked back and the first one was giving us the "Seriously? You're looking at him when I'm here?"  Look.

We looked back and the horse that wanted to ignore us was not happy that we were getting any attention at all.

Of course he didn't like being snapped at, so he tells the other one to cut it out.

The first one says, yeah, it's a regular Payton Place around here.

Heh.  Fun walk.

I Like this Bear

Did you know there are Bruins rules?  Well there are.  Here are some of them.

Most all of us can relate to this:

This one just makes me giggle.

This reminds me of the church I went to when I was a kid... really.

But this is my favorite.

Now you know the rules, you too can be a Bruins fan.  heh.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, another Thanksgiving is nearly here (technically it will be here in 20 minutes according to my clock as I write this).

As always it's a day to stop and think of all the good things that have happened during the year.  There were many... too many to count.

Last weekend we decided to head to Boston, see a hockey game, and spend a weekend away from the computers and the routine we tend to stick with.  We should do it more often, but at least we manage it once in a while.

We picked up some tickets a couple of days before the game.  The seats were great.  Bruins vs the LA Kings. The game started out pretty shaky, but ended up being terrific, even if the Bruins lost in a shootout... they did come back from 3-0 to tie it and force an O-T and shootout.

The Gahden was rockin.  I must say - Original Six cities really know their hockey and they are vocal in supporting their team. It's excellent fun. (more on this later)

It was Tim Thomas in goal.  He did a terrific job.

After the game we stopped at a tapas bar for after game snacks and drinks. The other area bars were packed - some with lines down the street to get in!  I marvel that someone would stand in line to get into a bar or dance club.  I could never do that so I will never be with it. heh.

A couple of guys came in to the tapas place and sat next to us, they were from LA.  Both are hockey fans and they were just blown away by how much cheering there was from the Bruins fans.  They said in LA  the hockey games don't have that kind of fan support.  People come late, leave early, and mainly go there to be seen.  What a shame for the team - they are good this year.

Next morning we went out for breakfast to the North End Grill and on to Fanneuil Hall to find the nearest Starbucks.  We passed this park with the bridge in the background.

This street where the sun was just hitting the scene.

Managed to get lost right about here. (we went left - figured out we should have gone right)

But later came back to take a picture of the buildings because they are pretty nice looking.

That afternoon we went to the Gardner Museum - it really is fantastic.  I want to go there again and see more.  Not that it's large, but I can only take in so much before I overload.

We did much train riding.  I had to buy some different shoes because the pair I had with me were not being agreeable to walking on cobbles and bricks and generally uneven pavement.

It was great fun.  We left Monday morning.  I love cities.

Of course I've been playing catch up ever since then.  Now we've come to Thanksgiving and for a day at least we aren't going to do anything.

I hope everyone has a terrific Thanksgiving Day even if you aren't American.  Best day of the year.

It's Friday Let's Laugh!

Jeanne Robertson cracks me up.

This one is my favorite.  She sends her husband to the grocery store to pick up a few things...

Over on FB I saw that someone had linked to a new bit which is just as good.  Doing the Pashmina Toss.

Now that's the way to start the weekend.

Not Sure Where the Time Is Going

Lately it seems as if I look up and the day is gone.  Once again it's nearly midnight and I'm only now managing a post.

A few things have been rolling around in my head, I just haven't had time to blog them.

Like the whole facebook email thing... because facebook has handled security and privacy so well over the years.  Right... good grief.  If you google "facebook privacy policy" you get

1,500,000,000

results. Seriously - try it.  So no problem as long as you know that at any time facebook can and will change the rules on what is public and what it private.   My advice (FWIW) treat facebook like you would a blog or your local mall.  If you don't want it out in the big bad internet  then don't put it on facebook.

I'm in a quandary.  I would like an ipad for travel because you don't have to take it out of your suitcase at the airport... but I hate not having a keyboard.  Would love a little macbook air but then I'm back to hauling it out for security.  I just don't know... must ponder some more.  Or I could start driving everywhere.  It's certainly a thought.

Oh well, I know there's more, it's just gone at the moment.  So sit back and watch the fire. It's pretty.

It's Been a Day

Here's some water reflections.

There are a few heads I'd like to duck in that water at the moment.  heh  Would spoil the reflection, but would make me very happy.

Why yes... they did get the leaves off the grass... why do you ask?

All the leaves have fallen.  Ready for winter.

There are still pumpkins out - ready for Thanksgiving.

As for yard art - this is more interesting than most.  I like it.

That's it for now.  Hopefully more tomorrow.

The Poplars Are Still Looking Good

Oddly enough there is a line of poplar trees that still has leaves.  You'd think they'd be gone by now, after all it's a windbreak. But you'd be wrong.

The sky was a lovely blue color that we don't get in midsummer.

But wait a minute... what's that? Look closer...

Missiles.  It's missiles I tell you!  See!

And here I thought that noise was a builder blasting for a new foundation.  Heh.

Roses

Yes, it's the middle of November and there are still some lingering roses (they look like old growth huge rose bushes)

Pretty. (yes you can click for a bigger size)
