Happy New Year!

I meant to do a long very meaningful post earlier today... okay it just didn't happen. So, here's to the end of 2005! May 2006 be a much better year for all of us!

In Best News of the Night category... Sissy Willis has posted that her lovely kitty Tiny - who has been under the weather... has gotten a very good report from the vet today. She should be fine - now THAT'S the way to start the new year!

I've Been Tagged With A Christmas Tree!

Tammi has tagged me with the latest meme...

Seems we're supposed to list our five favorite Christmas movies. You know - those flicks that just SCREAM Christmas for ya. So, let's get started.....

Okay....

1) Miracle on 34th Street... the Natalie Wood version. It's just so very well done and funny. Even at that age Natalie was an excellent actress and never looked "too" cute to me.

2) White Christmas... What can I say - cornball at its very best. I grew up seeing this movie on the Saturday afternoon movies on television in December.

3) The Ref.... I am not a fan of Dennis Leary in any other film or television show, but this one always makes me laugh.

4) A Christmas Carol... the Alistair Sim version. He is just the epitome of Scrooge and he's so delightfully ditzy at the end.

5) The Desk Set... Katherine Hepburn - Spenser Tracy... I adore this movie and watch it every year at Christmas.

There's one more that isn't really a "Christmas" movie... it's a New Year's movie I also watch every year. Bachelor Mother with Ginger Rogers and David Niven - funny funny funny. The New Year's Eve party is a riot.

Okay - that's one over the limit. And no - although years ago I loved It's a Wonderful Life... it was played way too many times and I got a case of over exposure.

Popsicle Time

My blog bro T1G is at the Chicago Bears football game tonight. Mind you, I was a little worried about him before this... now I'm quite sure he's out of his mind. Why you ask?

Current weather conditions on the Chicago lakefront... 12 degrees with a 12mph wind. I think it's gusting more than that because the football keeps getting knocked off the tee when they go to kick off.

Even completely pickled in alcohol... That's just damned COLD people! I do NOT miss Chicago winter weather.

Housewarming for Tammi

Since Tammi is moving into new digs today... our blog sis TNT has decided we need to give her some housewarming presents. What a lovely idea!

Now I realize I gave this same present to Machelle... but I think there's enough to go round and Tammi would like some too.

I Wish...

From my blog bro _Jon of We Swear... it's the I Wish Meme and here are the rules...

1. Finish the sentence: "I wish I ..."

- - Basically, pretend you had up to three wishes to change something about you. A restriction is that cannot wish to change someone else. For example, you can say; "I wish I weighed 30 pounds less." But this wish is not for this meme; "I wish my spouse weighed 30 pounds less."

I just wanna spread some wishes around.

Okay - here are mine...

1) I wish I was in much better physical condition... (weight is not the material factor for me, I'd sure like to be able to do some stuff like pushups, running, etc... it's my own fault for not being in better shape)

2) I wish I were smarter... (I always feel about a step behind in grasping things - like my brain doesn't work quite fast enough)

3) I wish I had some sort of artistic ability with color and what looks right... (I have none - not with art, color, spacial relationships ... it would be nice if I could make sense of color and art instead of being baffled by it)

Congratulations...

If you haven't heard (and I'm likely the last person getting a post up about it) SarahK married Frank J. on Saturday. Congratulations to both of you and may you have many happy years together!

I didn't make it down to the wedding because we had other plans... plans that ended up being changed at the very last minute - ARG! Therefore - what I was trying sooo very hard to avoid... that dreaded Christmas trip... will now become a reality. Alas, once again I missed meeting lots of great bloggers... not to mention seeing Sarah all gorgeous in her wedding dress. All in all, it looks like Mr. and Mrs. J had a wonderful wedding, I am very sorry to have missed it.

The Five Weird Habits...

Or should it be the 5 habits of Weird People? I've been tagged by Matt of Blackfive to present my 5 Weird Habits to the blog world...

Let's see - there are so many I wonder which 5 I should pick!

1) I LIKE to drink water at room temperature! This must be a weird habit since people are supremely insistent on wanting to put ice in my water... Even though I assure them I like it this way - they don't seem to believe me! I can't drink water with ice... well I can - but I don't like it. OTOH cold tea MUST have ice... don't like it warm.

2) I MUST cover my ears when it's cold out or I get a headache. We're talking anything below 50 degrees (and that's pushing it). But - I hate hats! So, I wear either a ski band - when it's above 40 or earmuffs... If it's snowing or below zero - I'll pull the hood over my head - with the earmuffs on... but I can't tie it. A couple of weeks ago we were walking at night - about when we got to the second mile I was too warm to wear my coat, so I took it off to carry it because I had a sweater on - but I still had my earmuffs on...my husband was laughing at me.

3) Talk about strange foods... my mom is of German descent, my Grandmother was from Germany... she would feed us Braunschwieger and jelly sandwiches... I love them. Haven't had them for years but I love them.

4) If I'm writing computer code... I can NOT have any kind of radio or music on. If I do - I find myself listening to that and forgetting where I was in my coding. In this case silence is golden.

5) If I am eating alone - I can NOT eat without reading. If the only reading material is the side of a cereal box... that's what I read. Generally though it's a book or newspaper, sometimes a magazine. But eating alone without something to read... it can't be done!

Okay - well I guess those are weird enough. I'm sure my husband and kids could come up with some better ones. (they always thought it was weird that I straightened the house before the cleaning ladies came... I told them - I want the ladies to clean when I'm paying them - not put away my magazines and mail!)

Now I have to tag 5 people... so how about...

Snowy Snowy

Well, it looks like today we get the snow that the mid-west was getting yesterday.

Too bad you really can't see the snow coming down in the pictures... Instead it just looks kinda fuzzy... well that's all snow.

It's piling up a bit on the back porch.

And from my door in my office it looks deeper than it really is. (The white spot in near the top is the reflection of one of the room lights in the glass... no I'm NOT going to open that door - I don't want snow all over the room)

Since I'm essentially stuck here - I made my own rather lame version of a Starbucks soy mocha... it did work well enough - and the caffeine is lovely... but I prefer to have it made for me...

UPDATE... I have tons of things to do today, but thought I would say - we eventually ended up with about 10 inches of the white stuff. At one point it was snowing so hard I couldn't see the trees in my yard! Glad I wasn't out driving.
