Congratulations To Eugene Volokh

He is doing his part to tilt the general IQ in California into the upper ranges of the stratosphere. Young Samuel made his appearance over the weekend while I was otherwise occupied - and I'm only now getting caught up in my reading when I ran across the post. Congratualtions to Eugene and his wife... two boys (Benjamin is the older brother) that close together in age with all those intelligent genes - oh he's gonna be having some fun. *grin*

Tammi Finds A Place to Live...

Big news... you heard it here first! Tammi has found a place to live! We were cut off (gotta love cell phones) before I got many of the details (I'd leave them to her anyhow). But - things are looking good. Not only that but at less than half the price she was expecting to have to pay for it! So all you Northern IL - Bad Example Family people... be prepared for a move in party! Woo Hoo!!!

Nearly Appropriate

Found over at Laughing Wolf...

Your Inner European is Irish!

Sprited and boisterous!

You drink everyone under the table.

Sadly they didn't have a selection for Meat and Potatos without the beer... so I had to make do. But other than the beer yes I am of Irish descent.

Tag I'm It

Harvey has tagged me with the latest meme game...

Immediately following there is a list of 20 different occupations. You must select at least 5 of them (feel free to select more). You may add more if you like to your list before you pass it on (after you select 5 of the items as it was passed to you). Each one begins with "If I could be..." Of the 5 you selected, you are to finish each phrase with what you would do as a member of that profession.

For example, if the selected occupation was "linguist," you might take the phrase "If I could be a linguist...I would learn Hebrew, Greek, Russian, Italian and Chinese." See how easy that is? Here's the list:

If I could be a scientist...
If I could be a farmer...
If I could be a musician...
If I could be a doctor...
If I could be a painter...
If I could be a gardener...
If I could be a missionary...
If I could be a chef...
If I could be an architect...
If I could be a linguist...
If I could be a psychologist...
If I could be a librarian...
If I could be an athlete...
If I could be a lawyer...
If I could be an innkeeper...
If I could be a professor...
If I could be a writer...
If I could be a llama-rider...
If I could be a bonnie pirate...
If I could be an astronaut...

Well, let's see - here are my entries...

If I could be a scientist...I would run the Mad Scientist Network
If I could be a farmer... I'd grow cocoa beans (one can never have enough chocolate)
If I could be a musician... I'd play the piano - half as well as Oscar Peterson
If I could be a doctor... I'd be a Radiologist and look at X-rays all day
If I could be a painter... I'd paint realist looking stuff not kindergarten paintings
If I could be a gardener... I'd grow lots of different flowers
If I could be a missionary... (they'd never let me do that)
If I could be a chef... (be a chef... no I'd HIRE a chef)
If I could be an architect... I'd design my own house
If I could be a linguist... I'd speak at least 4 other languages
If I could be a psychologist... I'd really mess with people's minds
If I could be a librarian... I'd live at the library and never let anyone check out my books
If I could be an athlete... I'd be a runner... I've never been able to run
If I could be a lawyer... I'd be a law prof and see if anyone caught me when I told them law lies
If I could be an innkeeper... it would be an inn on the ocean
If I could be a professor... I wouldn't tell those giving me tenure that I wasn't liberal until it was too late
If I could be a writer... I'd have 25 novels written by now
If I could be a llama-rider... (do llamas want to be ridden?)
If I could be a bonnie pirate... I'd be one of Jack Sparrow's crew
If I could be an astronaut... I'd go looking for other space ships to shoot at

Yeah, I know I was supposed to choose only 5, but I couldn't decide. Now 3 other people get to be IT...

Tammi now that she has a job - she can do silly memes.

Lee Ann of Lee Ann's View
because she can think of all the lovely ways to use this meme to get back at the car dealership

LeeAnn - The Cheesemistress because I can't wait to see what she'll do with these.

Tammi's World... On the Road

Last night our intrepid Road Warrior, Tammi, paid a visit. She had a job interview, then on to dinner with T1G, before heading up here to crash out for the night.

So, we had a little time to chit chat (in person rather than on the phone). Did breakfast and Starbucks this morning... then she was off and away to take care of her puppy - who has become quite the little devil in her absence. But, for a little while... it was Tammi's World... that's a good thing. :-)

I Only Speak Two Languages...

English and Bad English.... (I love Bruce Willis in The Fifth Element *grin*)

I was over at Bou's and for about the third time today I saw this test...

Your Linguistic Profile:

70% General American English

15% Dixie

10% Yankee

5% Upper Midwestern

0% Midwestern

Now it changes slightly depending on how I answer the y'all question. It's not a term I use all the time, just sometimes - so I said no...this time. It's pretty funny that Yankee turns out to be a larger percentage than Upper Midwest (where I've spent most of my life by now). The Dixie part comes from living in Missouri for so long.

Buy A Gun Day 2005

Aaron is back with this year's BAG day! I think it might be a really good way to use that refund this year. I nearly forgot about BAG day this year... but even though I'm a bit late in the day - I'm still behind the effort. :-)
