He's Back!

Of course no one told me, I had to stumble over it on my own (no one ever tells me anything - if you ever want news don't come to me).  However, I wanted to say Graumagus of FrizzenSparks has resumed blogging after a prolonged absence.

I consider him to be one of the funniest bloggers ever.

I should note that he is known for his profanity, so if you've never read his old blog and that is not your cup of tea, you've been warned!  Should I put it in upper case??? I don't want anyone to come back complaining.

That being said, I think he's the only blogger I ever copied and saved something they posted because I thought it was so funny.  I had heard back then that he was going to stop blogging (which he did for a while) and I was afraid my favorites would be lost to the world forever.

Therefore, if you are so inclined and you don't mind a heaping helping of liberal skewering along with many an F-bomb - head on over and welcome the man back.  Even better, sit back, read and enjoy.

Plants

Plants and I have often struggled. I get hold of them and often kill them off... not on purpose, but because I knock them over and break them, or forget to water them, or who knows.

When we moved here I didn't have any plants left. And since we've moved here, I didn't try excessively hard to find any for indoors. After all, mother nature pretty much abuts the house and tries to get in all on her own.  It didn't give me much incentive to go actively seeking extra plants that I have to expend energy on to keep alive.

However, in the last week a couple of things happened. The Whole Foods I shop at started carrying plants instead of only flowers. Real plants that are of a significant size. Not teeny little plants that can barely be seen. So I stopped and bought myself this one:

Then yesterday a couple of my friends took me to a "local" greenhouse. (local is a loosely used term here  as it's in Connecticut)  Logee's which had some incredibly cool plants. It's more like walking through a tropical forest. Plants are not only everywhere, but it's a toss up as to whether or not one should bring a machete to get through the aisles.

I got 2 more plants!!!  Of course I don't remember what they're called.  I'm lucky to remember my own name and the names of my friends.

This one was excellent because of the leaves being green on top and red underneath. I'm told if I leave it with longer... stems, branches, what might I call them???  I will get flowers.  If I cut the longer bits off it won't flower.  Sooo, if I get flowers  I'll take pictures.

The light was really bad today and I wasn't patient enough to get good pictures - so you're stuck with the rather washed out colors (even after I worked on it a bit) - sorry about that.

Then there was this extremely cool plant that grows on a rock!!!  Can I keep it alive?  We shall see.  I have the tag for this one, but it's all the way up stairs and I'm way too lazy to go get it.

BTW - who knew Target would have the perfect platter for this plant.  Now all I need is a smaller glass holder to sit in the center.  The plastic container it's in now holds the rock in about 1/4 inch of water.  I prefer having nested containers instead of having water in the holder that can slop all over the place.

There you go.  I now have plants... whoda thunk it.  I know there will be peeps out there very happy to hear this.  I am no longer plantless.

Next up - I want to try one antique rose bush.  That should be fun... if I can find one.

I Think I'm in Love

The Pioneer Woman got a new Border Collie.  She is beautiful.  There's just something about a Border Collie, they are the most wonderful dogs.

I must get our old pictures of Sam up on my computer.  I have a scanner now, there's no excuse except I never quite get to it.

The only one I have readily available is a puppy pic from when she was about 8-10 weeks old (way back in 1987).

Man she was just adorable.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

If I have time later I may find a picture of a shamrock... in the meantime, everyone enjoy the day.

And yes, I'm really half Irish.

Giving New Meaning to the Famous Quote...

"They'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands."

Math whiz, dead for 450 years, gets TV bill

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German mathematician who died 450 years ago has been sent a letter demanding that he pay long-overdue television license fees, residents at his former address said on Wednesday.

Ah you gotta love bureaucracy.  And better yet a stubborn bureaucracy...

Muench returned the letter to the GEZ with a note explaining the request had come too late because Ries had died in 1559, centuries before the invention of television and radio. She nonetheless received a reminder a few weeks later.

She should return it with a change of address listing the cemetery with the plot number as the street location.

On Monday

It snowed.

Pretty hard at times.

Made a nice fluffy coating on things.

The table top made it look like an awful lot.

But in reality it was just a pretty, fluffy, wet, snow.

Most of it melted today.  And I'm good with that.
