Wonderful! More, as soon as I have time to finish working on the pics and get them uploaded.
There is just something about ballons...
You take such wonderful pictures.

Pam - I took close to 200 shots so I have to weed though and pull some of the ones that came out looking good.
E - reading, practice, bad shots, reading, practice, bad shots... continue until you get something worth looking at.
Rev Paul - it might be too cold in Alaska for hot air balloons to work the way they should. Plus there is that mountain thing. LOL. Maybe next year (if I can remember) I'll ask one of the balloon people and see what they say.
I didn't bring enough SD cards along with me (stupid me - I have about 8 and walked out the door with only 2). Out of the nearly 200 shots there are some outright bad, most are so-so and the very few that turn out pretty decent. I don't know that I got any I would call outstanding.
This was dusk/dark shooting, so the light is way different than my usual afternoon walks. I'm so not used to my camera and the funky light issues it has (a well known thing with D80's). Man I was wishing for a D300s the new Nikon that just came out.
Considering the slow shutter speeds and that I was handholding instead of on a tripod - I'm amazed any of them turned out. Heh.

Camera Nikon D80
I had it set on "P" which is basically program mode. It chooses the shutter setting and aperture setting for me (because in these instances to try to shoot manually, I'd miss most everything). The focus is set on spot focus - I had set it there at another time and never thought about it when out shooting the balloons... heh. The focal point was set in the middle of the lens because I couldn't get a focus lock with it set anywhere else.
The lens is a Sigma 10-24mm (in other words - very wide angle type lens) In this case the setting was on 10mm - as wide as it would go - because I was standing directly under these balloons.
aperture was f/4
shutter speed was a sloooow 1/8
ISO was at 400
Like I said - as slow as the shutter speed was on these, it's amazing I got any pics since I was hand holding it rather than using a tripod.
