End of the Week
So I've been doing quite a lot of backend system cleanup on my Mac. When one does an upgrade there are bound to be things that don't work quite right.
I've had the Console open for the last few days and I've been chasing down error messages in the log files and fixing as much stuff as I can. So far I haven't broken anything... I guess that's good.
In the meantime, out in the real world there have been some interesting developments.
****
Like over in Germany where Babette hit "Reply All" and brought the German Parliament email system to a halt. Nice little Denial of Service.
****
Facebook is planning an IPO. Can't wait to see what happens once they have to start disclosing information about themselves instead of us.
****
Supposedly there is going to be a Twitter boycott. I'm trying to figure out how they'll do it without using twitter to communicate about the boycott...
****
Face it - there is no such thing as "privacy" out there anymore. Privacy on the net is an illusion. I've seen people who wouldn't touch Facebook ever, turn around an use Google for all their stuff. Someone tell me what the difference is because I must be missing something.
****
So there you go. Have a great weekend! You are now up to date on almost nothing.

well i guess at least google should be given props for at least being honest about their plans to monitor everything you do. still, i will try to completely avoid their products f i can. sadly that means any of my friends who use blogger/blogspot, etc, won't be hearing from me anymore.
come to think of it, that may not be so 'sad' for them...

I suppose this means I'm finally going to have to switch to wordpress. I've been putting it off for two years ... all the while, my desire to blog has been waning steadily.
When/if I make the big change, I may do it just for writing my book(s) ... and blogging will take a distant back seat.

Mr. Bingley I figure any comments I make are public and google can go scrape them from any site and relate them to me, so I don't even bother worrying about it. LOL.
Rev Paul I think you'd like wordpress even the free version is nice. You should set up a parallel site and check it out. Then when you want to switch, just post a link on the top post of the blogger site and move. Deleting any current stuff won't do anything at all, google has everything backed up six ways to Sunday and if you try to delete, they still have it in the backups. Then again any reputable provider does that kind of stuff anyway.
Gotta love the internet.

It's not the comments aspect but rather the tracking-and-linking-and-analyzing-and-reacting-to every website I visit and making it all available to others that bothers me.
Does it already go on to some extent? Of course, but at least here I'm given some what of an opportunity to at least protest it in some small way.

What Bingley said is what bothers me too. I'm using "Ghostery" to try to stop at least a little of their pesky trackings of my internet movements. Probably not really doing much good, but I try. Sometimes I notice the Ghostery blocks in the corner of my screen and I'm seeing 9 or 10 different trackers being blocked. And yet the site operates for me just fine with all that blocked. Take that, you stupid little tracker shits.
