It's Amazing...

How tables just clean themselves.  Really.

Note to Moron Man in Starbucks this morning.  Yeah, you with your 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter... you know... you... the guy who decided it was time to leave and then left the table an entire mess with cups and napkins all over it.

Guess what!  Tables DO NOT clean themselves.  And Starbucks is not a sit down restaurant with busboys.

So when you see that there is a line nearly out the door, that the staff is running around to fill orders as fast as they can, that all the other tables are full, and yet you leave a table full of your used cups and napkins for someone else to clean up after you... my advice is don't come in there again because you are obviously used to eating in a sty.

Here's an idea. Stop at your local farm and head to the troughs where they feed the animals.   Or I could be wrong - you may even offend the animals - I know my dog was neater than that when she ate.

Oh and BTW - I don't give a flying hoot in hell that you have 2 young kids with you.   I did that duty for years with my kids.   Yes, even when they were throwing hissy fits and I needed to get them out the door, I never left messes for others. And you didn't even have that excuse.   Your only concern seemed to be that your son spilled his hot chocolate on his shirt - THAT was an issue, but your crap all over a table - that was okay.

No, I better not see you there again or I will have something to say.  Loudly.

It Leaks?

It seems this building has some post construction issues... I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you!

MIT Alleges Flaws in Gehry Building

The school asserts that the center, completed in spring 2004, has persistent leaks, drainage problems and mold growing on its brick exterior. It says accumulations of snow and ice have fallen dangerously from window boxes and other areas of its roofs, blocking emergency exits and causing damage.

Gee Sherlock, have a look at the building for about 2 seconds... now think... what would have been the first clue that it might not hold up too well to real world weather conditions?

"Snow"... what happens with a 12 inch build up?  Where does it go when it hits those angles?  How does freezing and thawing effect the joinings?  How long does the snow sit in the valleys because it can't melt?

"Rain"... which direction does the water run?  How many angles are there for water to get in?  How many extra seams?  How many protrusions for water to pool and seep?

And the "brilliant"  people at MIT decided that this would be a good building.  Because?  Well because a world renowned architect designed it of course!  It MUST be great... and what a conversation piece.

Now they are suing the architect and the builder when they couldn't say no in the first place?  Gehry gave them weird and they were enchanted.  Do any of them live in their own houses?  Do any of them deal with weather issues?  Do the laws of physics cease to apply because it's on the MIT campus?

As for the builder...

An executive at Skanska's Boston office said Gehry ignored warnings from Skanska and a consulting company before construction that there were flaws in the design. "This is not a construction issue, never has been," said Paul Hewins, executive vice president and area general manager of Skanska USA.

Guess what.  If you know there is a problem and you take the job anyway, you deserve to have it all fall in on you.

All three of these parties deserve each other.  I think the penalty should be to move the school departments out to another building (maybe one from the 1800's). Then make all the parties who agreed to this "masterpiece" move in and live there together.  This might deter other idiots in the world from pursuing the ridiculous  just because it "looks cool".
