It's the Little Things

My husband and I have taken to watching House Hunters and timing how long it takes before the person looking at the house says:

I'll have to redo the entire kitchen. I really wanted stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops.

It doesn't matter how new the appliances are, even if they look brand new. It doesn't matter if the counter tops are fabulous looking. No, it all must go because it's not stainless and granite. I have seen one show where these words were not mentioned.

We don't have granite counters, however, after watching those shows we discuss going out and buying all white appliances for the kitchen. Just because.

1 I watch the local access station when it has local realtors listings being shown. I always immediately redo the kitchen, no matter what. I think it's something in the water.
However, I rarely choose stainless. I'm into the all-white appliance vibe too.

2 My appliances are black and my counters not granite, or solid core, or tile. Now, I'd love to have granite, but ya know - three kids - two in college - daughter with do nothing husband under threat of loosing her home... new counters are on the bottom of my list.

3 The kitchen re-do musings always include something like "It looks about 10 years old" or "Very 90's look to it." I have underpants older than that.

Also, the hunters are very concerned that their dogs will like the yard. What's the big deal? If it has a squirrel and a tree trunk, the dogs will like it.

4 Granite's overrated, anyway. It seems that some types actually emit measurable (and potentially hazardous) amounts of radon. Not all of them, but I don't know how simple it is to find that out before they install the countertops in your home.

6 Stainless steel is the avocado of the future...
Nothing like shiny, white, easy to keep clean kitchen appliances.

7 "Stainless steel is the avocado of the future..."
I love that. May I steal it?
