Dull Boring Teeth Post
It's been quite a while since I blogged about the Invisilines. Oh yes, they are still making my life fun and interesting. I hadn't realized that the entire thing had been going on for so very long until I looked back at my category about teeth.
If you really don't care about "the teeth" no need to read more - I put the rest below the fold.
Waaaayyyy back in July (yes nearly a year ago) the major part of moving teeth around had ended. There was one tooth that the dentist considered "high" and as it is one of the bigger teeth, she said it would be difficult to move. (let's call that the understatement of the decade)
This tooth simply resists all efforts to make it line up with the others. It has dropped a bit with all the futzing done to it, but it's not lined up. For some reason this bothers the dentist far more than it does me.
Anyhow, we used rubber bands for several months with little effect - not to mention constant bracket breaking. After that it was decided to make new impressions and get a new grouping of Invisilines and use those in an effort to move the tooth.
For some reason they have a very difficult time doing impressions on my teeth and it took over a month before the impressions were deemed okay and the new set of liners was delivered.
The dentist then decided I should wear each one for 3 weeks instead of the regular 2 week intervals. Since there were 9 sets all together - this is a LONG time. *sigh*
Last time I was in, she noticed that "the tooth" was not in place correctly in the liner (that would be #6). Apparently this was not enough to make it reasonable to give me alternatives then - not when I could wait it out nearly 2 more months.
Yes, she gave me the 2 more liners and said, come back in 6 weeks and we'll decide what to do... I wonder what she thought would happen in 6 weeks if the tooth was already not moving and the bracket to help it move was not engaged.
Today was the visit. She looked again - and yet again the tooth was not in the right place (I was shocked - shocked I tell you!). The choices - go back to the beginning of this new set of 9 and try again... or stop now.
Oh gee - let me think... something estimated to take 7 months has now gone on 18... yeah, we're gonna stop here. I go back in a week (well week and a half) and she's going to put a filler on the outside of the tooth that is being a problem, which makes me wonder why we didn't do this like 4 months ago.
Also, for this time I'm not wearing any Invisilines at all - not even at night. She wants to let the teeth "fall into place". I wonder what happens if we get to a week and a half and my back teeth still don't meet. I have a feeling this will be the case, but maybe I'm too pessimistic.
I have told her about this all along and it will not be acceptable to have my teeth not meet in the back. Since it's two of my front teeth "meeting" prematurely I'm not sure how this gets fixed - but it will be fixed. I'm tired of not being able to chew right.
Okay, so the teeth are straighter - but I've spent a long time waiting around for no return. Wearing those things, is not a joy - it's work. Also, I have dental work - several old fillings that still need replacing. It worries me that they keep waiting to do that while she futzes with this one stupid tooth. My teeth are pretty rotten (always have been) and I can just see major problems that aren't noticed until they go to drill out the old filling material.
I'd also like to get them whitened, since years of tea and mochas have yellowed them quite a bit. I had decided to wait on doing any whitening until the brackets to keep the Invisilines in place had been removed - this way all the teeth get to be the same color instead of some being different because they had brackets on them.
At least now I think I might get her to budge and get this thing moving again. I'm tired of messing with it. It's taken over twice as long as the original time estimate and it seems to be fine with her - but she doesn't have to live with the annoyance.
Once again - more waiting - this time to somewhat more purpose than has been the case for the last 6 months or so. Stay tuned... or not.
