It all started because I was trying to sort clothes.
I have no particular attachment to 99.9% of my clothes. But I do tend to put things in my closet and then they never leave again. When we moved, I should've been more proactive in weeding out unwearables, but there were so many other things to get rid of first, clothes were very low on the priority list. So, the closets all got packed up and moved. Then the boxes either were unpacked, filling up shelves and hangers, or they got shoved into the back of the closet to get them out of my way.
Now we come to the day when I'm trying to figure out what exactly do I have that I can wear, what doesn't fit anymore, what is so out of style it needs to go even if it fits perfectly. I walked into my closet and wanted to tear my hair out. Stuff... everywhere stuff... no order, collecting dust, some of it hasn't been touched since we moved in and even before that it hadn't been touched for years in my other closet. I just couldn't stand it, so I started to pull things out and pile them up.
I found empty shoe boxes taking up valuable space - I have no idea why there were empty shoe boxes... why take shoes out of the box then neatly put the box back on the shelf with the shoes next to it? I found clothes that used to fit, but sadly they fit no more. I have no idea if I'll ever drop that one size down in order to wear them, I suspect that if I do, they will be sadly dated... they got packed for donation. I had clothes with rips and tears, so ratty I wouldn't even want to wear it for cleaning purposes - they got thrown out. I ended up with a couple of large trash bags full of junk... all that was clogging the closet and I'm not even done yet!
Then it was off to the store to get rubbermaid storage boxes. I packed up things like, toiletry kits we use when traveling - we have a number of them. (I guess we're collecting - I have no idea why) They were piled up and falling off the shelf, now they have their own bin. My husband had an entire shelf of camera equipment spread out, just waiting to be knocked to the floor. Now it's all in bins with towels lining the bottom to prevent damage. We had a pile of hats of various sorts - all in their own bin... except one that will require a special hat box because of the shape. I finally found some belts I had been looking for... under a bunch of junk.
I still have to weed through the plethora of dry cleaning bags holding clothes I haven't worn in a while. I need to see what I want to keep from that lot and what gets donated. I'll need some extra boxes for boxing up the few things I don't want to get rid of, but won't be wearing in the near future - although (unlike Bou) not one piece is of college vintage or even pre-child vintage. I need more hanging clothes bags.
Then it will be on to the closet in the guest room. Then the closet in my office...
The fun is never ending around here.
Last of all.. what is with a spellchecker that doesn't know the word "okay"? (the suggested replacement is "Tokay"...huh? weird!)
