Apples, Computers, and Steve Jobs
I seldom post about celebrities who die. Even if I loved their work. I didn't know them or their families or even their friends. Anything I say will never even be noticed which is fine - that's the way of the world and the internet. I always hope that somewhere my good wishes will cosmically help the family and friends left behind... one of those whimsical ideas that float into and out of my head.
However, this one man has done so many things over the years and changed life for us all in so many ways, I feel a need to say something - even if I'm the only one who sees it.
I can't do justice to commemorating the life of someone like Steve Jobs. Andy Ihnatko does a far better job (and so he should because he is a writer and words are his stock in trade - I just babble).
Steve was larger than life, but very much a real person, at least that's how I saw him. Few people ever make the effort to truly change the world. Steve Jobs was one of those people. He had a vision and he brought it to us. He put it in front of us. He insisted we take notice. He insisted form and function could both be beautiful. The end result were some amazing inventions.
I will miss his innovative ideas, I think the world will too. I hope someone else steps forward to do something similar, but I'm afraid that doesn't happen nearly often enough.
Rest in peace Steve. My deepest condolences to your family and friends. The world is a poorer place without you.

Thinking I Should Post This
I keep emailing this link to people and then I just found myself posting it in the comments over at Erica's place. I shook my head and thought - why don't I post it on my blog? Ha. Shows you how much I've been thinking about blogging lately...
Anyhow, back when I was taking tai chi classes, we did many different mediations, but the basic meditation was called "observing the breath". You just concentrate on your breathing - that's it. Kanani has posted a link to a most excellent 5 minute vid using this basic meditation but only for one minute at a time! I love it. Plus - the man who developed this, Martin Boronson, stays well away from all the touchy-feely and quasi-religious junk that generally comes around with any kind of meditation.
I highly highly recommend you hit the link and watch the vid. It's quick and painless I promise. (although I admit to wanting to sneak a peak during the minute he does for meditation to see if his cartoon guy is making faces or something - LOL) If you find it helps you that is fantastic. If it doesn't, well it wasn't too awful of a way to spend 5 minutes now was it.
I also bought his book (because I have a kindle - I love my kindle). And contrary to his instructions, I read ahead. heh. I may never get to the end point of the moment meditation... but it gives me some methods to consider. Interesting stuff when it's done right.
