This and That

Today is our anniversary.  Yes, it's hard to believe but 31 years ago my husband and I were married.  Where did the time go?  It can't have been that long!

****

I took my computer with me while I was on the road and it didn't help a bit.   I came back and I'm still trying to dig out from under the pile of work that accumulated while I was gone.  Amazing.

****

I'm once again behind on my blog reading.  *sigh*   Will hopefully catch up soon.

I love Zappos... just sayin'...

About 3/4 of the way through pilates yesterday, someone got a bright idea.  Under discussion - Dr. Oz claims that a fit woman (in the age group of our class) should be able to do 35 pushups from the knee down position.  Whatever. I don't watch Oprah nor do I follow Dr. Oz so I had to take their word for it.

The second step is to build muscle by lifting weights for 30 minutes a week. You can lift a dumbbell, a gallon of milk or your toddler…just start lifting! According to Dr. Oz, the average 30-year-old woman should be able to do 45 bent-leg push-ups (and five fewer every following decade of her life), and the average 30-year-old man should be able to do 35 regular pushups (and five fewer every following decade of his life).

So we did the 35 push-ups just because.

Of course this was after we had done many and varied arm sets using 10 and 5 pound weights.

When I work up the energy I'll have to see how many I can do straight out now.  Last time I checked it was 12 that was last year

****

That's it for now.  Still have work to finish (of course) before I get ready to go out for dinner.

1 Ha! Got you beat by one year on the marriage thing. I was just telling Pam this morning that I did over 100 push-ups in last night's workout. Knees down - and in sets over the course of an hour - but still Pilates = torture!

2 Doing 35 bent-knee pushups is easy.  Seven on Monday, seven on Tuesday, etc. . . . and before you know it, it's Friday and you're done with all 35!

3 Patti - LOL I'll try to catch up.

Seaweed - if only I could convince the instructor that we should do them that way...  ROFLMAO

4 Sounds like spring fever to me ... but then, I have it too.

We're celebrating our 30th in May - taking my wife to a posh resort for the weekend. No kids, either.  Woohoo!

(my Bride is a Zappos-holic as well!)

7 They kind of took what he said out of context. I have read his book, but never seen him on TV. We get his column here in the paper and he's just all about education. His big thing is that if you don't exercise 30 minutes a day with 1/2 hour of strength training a week, you lose muscle mass. For every 10 years you're a slug, starting at age 35, you lose 5% of your muscle mass, which means to maintain that 35 year old weight, you have to cut your caloric intake by 120-420 a day (depending on your body, size, etc.) every 10 years. So at age 55, you have to eat 240-840 cal less than you did at 35. But you all in Pilates are covering all his bases. The push up thing was pretty much to make a point of what you should be capable of doing... and if you read through it, NONE of it is difficult if you exercise like y'all do in Pilates. Happy Late Anniversary!!!

8 LOL - I'm not saying he's wrong, but I don't know that he's right either because I don't have time to do any research on it.  OTOH - the push-up thing is certainly not detrimental to the health of anyone who hasn't got specific medical problems so it's a fun test.

His book is an interesting read. It is VERY eye opening. And it pisses me off at all the things our doctors don't tell us. That leaves me to believe they think we won't listen, or they themselves don't know.

I hate the book title. It's YOU on a Diet.  What it really should be is YOU: how your body processes food.  It gives an excellent breakdown of why your body does what it does with what we eat, from brain, to intestinal, to heart.

Since he's come out, I am hearing more and more cardiologists coming out and saying what Dr. Oz is saying.  It's like he took the finger out of the dam and now everyone is being vocal and that is what is needed.  Everyone needs to hear this stuff over and over. Whether they choose to listen is another matter...

10 Whoa! That's what I get for not stopping by in a timely fashion. I miss out on the goodies.
Happy anniversary T and Beloved Husband. Wish you many, many more.

11 Thank you MGA!  Considering my dearth of blogging lately, I'm surprised anyone is stopping by.  LOL.
