Olympic Moments

Tonight I am going to sit down during prime time Olympic coverage on NBC and take some notes.  I will take one hour of coverage.

I will count
-- how many minutes are devoted to commercials
-- how many minutes are devoted to stories about athletes
-- how many minutes are devoted to showing past athletic accomplishments or disasters of athletes
-- how many minutes devoted to anchors chit chatting
-- how much air time Jim Cantori receives

-- how many minutes any actual sport is shown.

My guess is that the last category will be minuscule when we combine the others together.  We shall see if I'm correct.

There may be other interesting stats too.

2 I sense a bit of.... what is it? ... cynicism! Yeah, that's it!

I am so with you!

3 The editing has taken what would have been some fairly engrossing segments, and chopped them up into nearly unwatchable shorts.

Last night's pairs figure-skating short program, for example, was won by ... a pair that never appeared on the broadcast. We saw about 20 seconds of their supposedly "great" performance, as a passing highlight, 3.5 hours later.

Only network TV would take a sure ratings bonanza - which they admit they desperately need - and drive it over a cliff.

Les idiots!

4 I'm positive NBC is trying to drive us insane with this supercrappy coverage.  And yet I watch, and watch, and watch more.  They're gonna drive me to Tivo, mark my words.
