Football and Fruitcake

It's late now, earlier I was getting a "friutcake" error when I tried to get to the blog login page... Pixy kindly fixed it.

So now I'll just post a short congratulations to the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts. They will be heading to the Super Bowl in 2 weeks.

I was happy to see the Bears beat the Saints - although Rex Grossman looked very bewildered for most of the game. Apparently, even with the bewildered look - the good Rex showed up to play today. YAY!

I'm just glad we won't have to listen to the news media drone on and on and on and on and... (well you get the idea) about New Orleans and Katrina. It would have been unbearable.

As it is, they're making a huge deal over the fact that the first African-American coaches are leading Super Bowl teams... *sigh* I want to know who the hell cares what color their skin is, they are talented coaches and deserve to be there with their teams. It will be a long 2 weeks as always.

The Colts and Patriots, as was expected, went down to the wire. It was probably the best game played so far in the playoffs. This doesn't bode well for the Super Bowl. If the playoffs are outstanding the SB usually sucks pond water. We'll see. Maybe they'll have some good commercials this year to liven things up. That would be a switch from the last few years.

Football

I've spent more time watching television this weekend than I have in years. Four playoff games and 24 in the same weekend! Wow!

Yesterday's match ups:

Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens - quite possibly the worst game I've seen played in years. Not one single touchdown - NONE. All scoring was done as field goals. The Three Stooges could've pulled off a better game than these 2 teams. In the end Indy's 5 FG's over-matched the Ravens. But the entire thing was painful to watch.

Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints - excellent game! Lots of action - also I had to cheer for Drew Brees as he was QB at Purdue while darling daughter was in school there. Philly tried very hard and they played well. N.O. played better.

Todays games:

Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears: Pretty good game - I thought for a while that the Seahawks were going to win it. The Bears were having a hard time stopping the Seahawks running game. But the Bears pulled through in overtime. It was close. They were evenly matched.

New England Patriots at San Diego Chargers: neither of these teams played well. It was like they didn't really want to win. Brady looked pretty bad with a number of his throws, but Rivers and his offense made just as many mistakes. Only saving grace - these teams actually scored touchdowns. It came down to the last few seconds and the Patriots got lucky when the Chargers couldn't hit a 52 yard FG.

Next week. New England at Indy and Saints at the Bears.

If the teams play like they did this week - New England and the Saints will meet at the Super Bowl. Only time will tell.
