Dollhouse
Have you watched this show? I missed the first episode when it aired last week and I was most annoyed. Then
SarahK told me to look on hulu.com. Sure enough they are posting the shows which is a wonderful thing for people like me who can't remember when stuff is on. This is a show that is difficult to follow if you don't watch from the beginning.
Therefore, if you haven't seen it:
This is a link to the first episode.
The second episode has been posted too and is on that same page. I may just watch them again.
My take, without spoilers. I love it. Terrific dialog (as
Joss Whedon fans expect), lots of action - most excellent non-pc action.
You do have to pay attention, especially in the first episode. It's pretty choppy at the beginning. Stick with it, it will make more sense later. I'm betting it will make even more sense by the end of the season.
The second episode contains a number of flashbacks which I finally got the hang of after figuring out that the "background" lighting was a more sepia toned hue when they jumped to those. Duh... sometimes I'm a tad slow on the uptake.
The second episode also has one of the BEST lines I've heard in a television show in... forever. Anyone who saw it will know the line I mean. It's worth it to watch both shows just to get that one line.
Go watch and enjoy.

H and I have been tracking the show forever, back when we read a rumor on some Joss Whedon fansite. Anything he writes, I'm pretty much a fan of before I even see it, and 110% thereafter.
You've seen Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, yes? Another example
Back to Dollhouse- yep. It's gooooood.

Okay, I have to admit I haven't watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. I've been meaning to, just haven't quite found the time. Maybe in the next week or so. Thanks for the reminder. LOL.

I'm gonna second the thumbs-up on Dr. Horrible.
Also, the flashback issue wasn't just you. Beloved Wife had to ask me a couple times about whether a scene was past or present.

Firefly
I believe I've mentioned in some other posts that beloved husband and I are finally getting around to watching
Firefly (oops - I should mention that this link automatically plays a video short from the show!) which is currently showing on Saturday nights in hi-def on Universal HD channel. We're doing the weekly show for several reasons. First - we get to watch it for the first time in HD - which really is excellent! Second - it's the first show I've ever watched that I am enjoying so much, I'm still giggling over bits of it several days later. I want to stretch this out because I know it will end shortly.
After a couple of years watching the extremely frustrating 24... (which I will not waste time on ever again) not to mention all the mediocre to really hideous shows that have been presented over the years as "entertainment", this show is so good I'm having a hard time believing anyone actually approved it to be broadcast on television ever!
Those who have seen the show and love it, will know why I'm laughing... They showed "Our Mrs. Reynolds" this last Saturday. I will only say "Vera" and "You kissed her didn't you."
There is always a twist with every show that is completely unexpected. And in my entire history of watching television - which includes watching avidly as a kid... I can't remember a show I've enjoyed more. I'm very sorry it only lasted 14 episodes - what was Fox thinking!
It's also the only television show I will take the trouble to buy. If you haven't seen it - may I recommend that you at least rent it. Personally, I'd cut to the chase and buy it - the series is less than $30 from Amazon (BTW - checking out Amazon, it has a 5 star rating with over 3000 reviews - that is amazing!).
Now, I have neglected to read any blogs for about 24 hours. Time to get myself reading again.

We're both fans of the show, as I think I've commented before. My personal favorite ep is "Jaynestown" and, if they're going in order according to the many FF-obsessed sites (complete scripts on some), you should see it next.
"Cult status" is the phrase they use a lot when writing about this show. Joss Whedon t-shirts, for cryin' out loud.

Yes, I believe Jaynestown is next... although I think they're skipping a week (boo - hiss!) because they have some other thing running... they do some sports so maybe it's a sporting event, I don't remember now.

I love this series. I'm so pissed they only made one season. Everyone I've loaned my DVDs of the series and the movie Serenity (Watch after you've seen the series, it's much funnier) has loved it.

So far I've purchased the series on DVD...Twice. I lost the first one because "My dog ate it!". Seriously! I came home from work one day and found my beloved DVD with frickin' teeth marks in it, so I bought it again.
Once you see the movie Serenity, you'll totally want to kill a FOX executive for not letting him (Joss) tell the story throughout the T.V. series.
Glad to have you as another "BrownShirt".

I saw the movie in the theater and absolutely LOVED it. Then my sister gave me the TV series on DVD. So I watched it all in the wrong order ... which I mildly regret ;-) I'm glad you are doing it in proper order - and am sooooo sorry that Joss didn't get to do more of it.

I never watch TV so I'm always clueless about which shows are good and which ones bite. I did, however, watch Firefly. After numerous people recommended it to me, I finally broke down and bought the DVD...and loved it. The movie is good, too.
Two other good shows that got cancelled before their time: "Dead Like Me" and "Arrested Development".

You really should be in the conversations with me, Mo and Bou because we said all these same things. This was the lamest season finale ever.
I do recommend the earlier seasons. 1&2 were really good. 3&4 aren't as good as 1 & 2, but a hell of a lot better than this year's!!!

Would you believe I've never watched a single episode of that show? I *know* what it's like to get hooked on a show...happened to me with Ally McBeal. Oy. Never again.
Only TV I ever watch these days are my Britcoms (Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By) and my Sunday night cartoons (KOTH, Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad).
Just reading that list makes me feel like I watch too much. Thank goodness I don't have cable. That would be disastrous.

That was the saddest ending, in more ways than one. When you hope the hero dives off a cliff and ends it all, it's really over.
I knew Chloe was preggers when she didn't fight with Morris when he told her it was over. Not like her to go all girly and cry...
Oh, has anyone actually counted the times Jack was arrested in that one day? :/
I'm going to rent season one and hopefully two... they MUST be better.

I missed half of it but didn't really MISS it, if you know what I mean... glad the action picked up, but there's so much detachment from this season it's pitiful.
The previews show Morris hovering over a prostrate Chloe and screaming for help. If they kill Chloe they can KMA. :/

I thought the epi was only slighter better than the previous tripe because there was more action... but do we get what we really want: Jack breaking kneecaps? The promise was there but degraded to a partial escape attempt.
Only two left... he's gotta get in some violence soon... And hopefully they'll take Chloe out of the soap suds and use her talents as God and nature intended...
I thought [yes, so much was weird] that it was very strange of Morris to be so cut and dried about dumping Chloe. It's the same day, after all!

Come on! I loved Milo getting shot. My sister and I were screaming on the couch with shock and delight (we are savage and Milo was just some boy-band-guy). The kill count was way up. I thought it was good. Of course, it could have been better.....SecDef Heller could have been there.
And I did think the whole Lisa/Bishop sex thing was hilarious. "Can I freshen up?" "No. You already showered."

24 - Or How to be Smothered By Bubbles
Back in the 60's there was a television show called
The Prisoner. A man was abducted from his home in London and placed in a small prison village. One of the things I remember most about the series was the huge bouncing ball that would be sent out to
kill stop people from escaping. (okay I haven't seen the show in so long - my thanks to
Velociman for reminding me what was going on in the show... I just remember holding my breath whenever the ball would come bouncing onto the screen) It would basically seek out the person, knock them down and smother them. The ball was very soft plastic and the person would push on it to no avail - their hands sinking into the ball instead of moving it away. I'm kinda feeling like that bouncing ball has gotten me with this last episode of 24...
In deference to those who could care less - I place the rest below the fold.

Okay, still laughing at "crispy critter"...
I don't watch soaps, either, but I know one when I see it... whoever decided on these plot lines and dialog should be flogged!
And Chloe... I weep for her character. They have killed the Chloe we knew and loved. Rat Ba$tard$.
Last year it was all about Jack and Chloe for me, but this year... this year I like Tom Lennox. The man would rather die at the hands of kidnappers than pretend his values are other than they are, even if it would save his life... and really has never deviated from that position with anyone, from Karen up to the POTUS.
Notice how everything is flipped? The Senator USED to like Jack, but now hates him?
The Veep WAS a power hungry megalomaniac, but now is a teddy bear? and we thought Doyle was [maybe] a baddie, but it's almost like they are setting him up to be the next Jack!
Morris just [remember, it's the same day!] blew off his and Chloe's entire relationship on the basis of one phrase, and let's not forget the horrible president from last year turned out to be GOOD!
My head is spinning.

Well, you do know... Morris will be kidnapped once again, this time by the Chinese. They're going to want him to fix the chip since they can't read it. It was such a small part in the whole mess - I forgot about it.
Just wait and see - Morris will get to redeem himself by dying to keep the Chinese from getting the info.

As an avid 24 fan, I haven't watched this year after episode 3. Bad plots and dialogue? Burnout? Dunno. But it's too painful to watch it's so bad.
As an aside, as I recall the bubble on The Prisoner was used to capture runaway prisoners. It caught Patrick MacGoohan a few times. Could it also kill? Don't remember.

24 - As Soap Bubbles Rise
Okay, because I got completely lost yesterday evening and finally turned around and went home - I actually made it back in time to watch this mess of a show. Mind you - I would have preferred to have been able to find the meeting I was trying to get to... but it wasn't to be. (driving around Boston - especially on Red Sox game night - just sucks. It's like Wrigleyville when there's a Cubs game... except the streets aren't in squares and I had no idea where I was)
So, on to 24... below the fold as usual... it doesn't deserve the time I'm investing, but I'll finish out the season.

'Soapy' is exactly the way I'd describe it now... which makes me wonder which writers were replaced?
I did manage to stay awake, but only because of the weirdness factor.

Tivo'd it Monday night because I had a wine tasting. Finally watched it tonight. Where did the Hummers come from? More questions than that, but what's the use? This is my concern, and I hope I am wrong.
They are not showing much of Jack this season. And then on http://www.fox.com/24 there was a poll on Doyle and one of the options to vote was Doyle is how Jack was in the field originally.
I'm fearing they may weed Jack out and bring in Doyle, and if they do....I am gone.
When they advertised season 6 as "Jack is Back", they should have said, "Jack is back....just for a little bit'

Sissy - I'm thinking that maybe Milo (if he's lots smarter than has been let on all season) could be the mole. Doyle is just too over the top to be the one.
Mrs. Who - yeah, they pull that crap every season. Middle of a crisis and suddenly someone wants to talk about a relationship or some such nonsense. It's been bearable up to now because the action stuff is great. No action and more of that crap this year are just killing the show.
Denny - you may be on to something. I didn't think of that.

You know, since ex-Pres was in on the plot last year we should have seen this coming... but I didn't.
On the sleepy meter, this ep got a 7. Pretty much kept me awake...
Marilyn... I wanted to slap her. I understand screaming in surprise or sudden fear... but instinct takes over when your life is in jeopardy... adrenalin flows, senses seem sharper and your body harnesses resources for *survival*, not screaming like a 5 year old.
Idiots. Every time that happens I want to... scream.

I think the season really started for me when Blondie capped McCarthy. From there on it was a roller coaster ride... and it seems that Jack really IS back. And I loved how he defended his actions... "I told you I wasn't ready for this..."
Can't wait til Daddy is outted!
And what kind of a 'company' does Daddy have that allows him to have just as many specialized teams as CTU? Something powerful... Maybe we should start calling him Dr. Evil...
I knew Chloe would go in and tell Morris to stop feeling sorry for himself. That's her in a nutshell... Too bad you're hurt, we have work to do! I love her.

Well... I didn't fall asleep this week.
After Dad capped the bad guy at the pit I knew something was wrong... I told Arthur "Dad's in the big leagues, a top echelon bad guy... we just don't know it yet".
It's the first time I've been right, so that tells me the writing [or acting] is a little too transparent this season...

They Call It 24
I'm wondering if it should be called "Curse of the Egomaniacs" instead... Yes, Yes, more in the extended section.

I thought Karen would turn weasel boy in to the President, but no... she just walked out. Yeah, just give up an important job of the highest level because of a weasel? Ugh.
I yawned a good deal during the hour, but managed to stay awake based on the hope that Jack would get to kick some major a$$.
Ho Hum indeed...

I'm about ready to give up on 24 myself. Like you, I wanted more Jack.
Jack has one more chance...besides, I'm tired of recording 'Heroes' while Jack is on...if Jack and the President don't get serious, I'm gonna be watchin' Heroes exclusively.

this week was such a freaking waste. Especially as next week we get to see little Bro in the chair again.

Now Jack is Back
Okay, I know, there are those who don't like 24... so I'll put this in the extended entry if you don't want to read it.

Maybe I should just stop watching... I saw roughly 30 minutes, including the end, which was the best part IMO... but the bald bad guy is Jack's brother? Geez... that just irritated me.
And, yeah... we all reached the same conclusion about Jack's 'nephew'...

I completely missed coming to the conclusion about Jack's "nephew" until one of my commenters pointed out to me that he looks just like Spawn.

24 Day Two
Okay that's enough 24 for the week... really it is. I think 4 hours in 2 days is too over the top even for me. Especially when Jack doesn't get to beat the crap out of someone or Chloe doesn't get in a great take-down snark. (sorry, but breaking up a fight between Morris and his boss doesn't count)
The show is a kind of alternative "what if"... although I don't think the people writing it have any firm grasp on basic laws of the US and what the President can do or can't do. They seem to invest him with Emperor-like control when that is just not the case. I begin to wonder if they even know...
In any case... Jack did not get to beat up anyone tonight - he barely got a few shots off. Where's the action? Apparently that begins next week. The previews for that show look excellent.
The nuke scenario is playing out the same way the nerve gas scenario played last season... detonate one - Jack now has to find the rest. Well, fine, I just want to see Jack take out the bad guys...
The family that was taken hostage by the kid terrorist... I had to wonder what the father thought would happen - did he think at all? Did he even stop for 2 seconds to consider that they'd just go ahead and kill his kid once he'd handed over the box he was sent to deliver? Did he stop at all to think about why terrorists would want the box so very badly? It couldn't be for anything good - so why would they let any of them live once they had what they wanted? Geeze. Writers seem to think all of us peons out here are incredibly stupid. (although these people were the touchy feely liberal wanker types... so maybe stupid is right)
If they hadn't shown scenes for next week - I probably wouldn't even have watched after the first 4 hours. It's been an exercise in how to write an extremely depressing story...
Jack killing Curtis - this was wrong totally wrong. If they wanted to write him out of the show - that was not the way to do it. I don't care if they wanted to present a moral quandary - find some other way to do it.
However, next week looks like it will be a step way up - we'll see. Jack is in the show... but he's not back... not yet.

The first hour bored me so badly that I fell asleep 15 minutes into the second... I woke up to go to bed and Arthur told me about Curtis and I was grateful I'd slept....
Everything seems wrong somehow... the terrorists are 'good guys' and the Americans are 'bad guys'... did they change writers?

Morrigan and Bou just got me hooked. I watched for the first time Sunday night.
Morrigan and I messaged back and forth during the show.
I asked her, "Do you think the President really talks to these people?" lol
I had to laugh at that....
