24... Um... Sure

Weirdness abounds... below the fold as usual. Well, that was an episode wasn't it. I'm still trying to figure out what the writers are thinking. I've come to the conclusion that they aren't thinking at all.

The Veep with the "I'm in control here." Alexander Haig attitude, is making me crazy. Basically he wants a war with the Middle East and I'm thinking he's been in league with Jack's father in arranging events to suit himself. Including the attempted assassination of the current President. He's even slimier than the former President Logan (and I didn't think that was possible).

I'm disappointed that Lennox caved and decided to support the Veep in arm twisting the Ambassador with an outright lie. I was beginning to think he was a decent guy - guess I was wrong. Although I have no issues with going after someone who is attacking you - I think it's a good idea to kinda... you know... actually KNOW who it is that you're going after. If you go after the wrong guys - the right guys have all kinds of time to wreak more havoc. Sheesh!

The new guy in CTU - Doyle - he's supposed to go in and grab the Russian Markov who is one of the guys behind all the mayhem. This seems to be a small point that has escaped the notice of the Veep.

Apparently the hardline Russians are using the Arab terrorists as a front in order to bring down the government. All with the "help" of some "patriotic" citizens of the US. Can we get any more convoluted? *sigh* Once again Jack has become expendable. Until CTU finds out he's not.

Seems Jack knows where the bombs are. Now the mission is to save him and grab Markov. In the meantime....

(there's always a meantime isn't there)

The slimy ex-Pres, Logan, has 30 minutes to convince his ex-wife Martha to call the Russian first lady and convince her... to convince her husband... to make Markov surrender to the US for questioning. Got all that? Yeah... like anything at all in government, even getting hold of the Russian first lady, can be done in 30 minutes!

As an amusing side note. One of the emailers to the local sports talk show this morning, brought up the fact that this episode takes place between 6pm and 7pm (California time) that makes it about 4am in Moscow... yet the Suvarov's (Pres and his wife) are not only awake and fully dressed, but he had been giving a speech... His guess was that the Russians drink lots of Vodka because they never sleep. Heh.

Now we come to the confrontation between Logan and his ex- wife Martha. That was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Of course every time I see Logan he creeps me out. But I was sad to see that they had written Martha into nearly complete breakdown. Unfortunately, the writers also smacked us blatantly in the face (or maybe I should say - stabbed us) with the fact that she was going to go at the rat bastard ex-husband. There was no surprise there at all. And it was a total snooze of about 15 minutes worth of show. Not to mention - now she has to go to jail because she killed him. Ho-hum... While I find the entire thing very well acted - I wanted to throw things at the television and tell them to get on with the real action. Geeze!

Best bits: 1. Doyle - who is a real Class A jerk when dealing with people in CTU is the first person I've heard voice any concern at all about the welfare of his men. This means he has to do something REALLY bad before I'll start to consider him to be a creep. 2. Doyle sends his men onto the Consulate grounds with guns blazing - full out assault. He's taking out everything moving... Excellent.

Scenes from next week show us that the Veep is trying to launch missiles at the Middle East cause he has a few carriers off the shores of their country. Somehow this offends me more than anything they've done in this show so far. I'm way past the point of "yeah, right" and into "what were they smoking when they wrote this crap?"

1 I 110% agree! I was saying the same thing to Morrigan and Boudicca. The whole stabbing thing, Martha being a wack job, calling Russia...all of it...just boring and predictable.

Ugh, if this doesn't pick up soon, I'm going back to season 1!

2 Yeah... The hubby and I were trying to start watching the show. And this was our second episode. Don't know if we'll watch again, but it actually makes me feel better that you don't like it ;-)
