Action! Murder, mayhem, gratuitous violence...

Definitely below the fold. What the hell took them so long? I've been waiting all season for an episode like this. Sadly, it says something about the show when we get to the 22nd hour of the day before there's any real action - in an action show. So here I stop to present my tepid thanks to the writers for eventually getting around to showing us something they should've been showing us all season.

Now where were we? Oh yeah, the bad guys have taken over CTU (there's a surprise of monumental proportions... never figured that would happen did you) and they've taken Josh away. Mom has a meltdown and instead of just backhanding her - the bad guy is gonna blow her head off. I think that might make me stop screeching... but hey, she doesn't appear to be the brightest bulb in Vegas.

The idiot bad guys don't keep the CTU crowd from talking while moving them to a "safe" room, guess they don't know Jack. He naturally has a plan to take them out. Excellent fight follows. Yay! WooHoo! Jack kills the bad guy leader - Go Jack! Nadia actually gets down and dirty, fighting with one of the bad guys. (where's Chloe? last season, she took out a terrorist without batting an eyelash, now she's nowhere to be seen when she could've been helping Nadia... that goes for the rest of them too) Then Jack and Doyle go after the kid.

In the meantime, the bad guys finally get Josh to the head Chinese guy. Whereupon Josh is presented with the unmitigated joy of talking to his demented Grandfather. Poor kid - at least he knows his grandpa is a total nut case. Can you imagine any American kid listening to grandpa saying... "hey I'm taking you to China my boy where the living is good..." Yeah, I think most American boys would have the same reaction Josh did - "you're insane".

Okay, Jack stops them from getting Josh away. He kills off everyone EXCEPT the head Chinese guy... WTF? C'mon Jack - nothing good ever came of NOT shooting the bad guy. Only bad things come from that and I expect this will be no exception. I mean, he didn't even shoot him in the leg!!! What's that all about?

Now back to the White House... or wherever they are. The blond skank and her traitor boyfriend end up having a fight. She tries the brain him with a lamp and he nearly strangles her to death. The Veep's skills at bluffing with the Russians are just about nil. The Russians admit to having one of the very WORST security systems in the entire world. If your system can be broken when one single chip goes missing - you have one hell of a problem and it's not the fault of the USA... Geeze. This part of the storyline is so abysmally weak, it's positively ruined the entire episode for me - even with all the action. Think about it...

Let's finish this up. Jack's daddy wants Josh and clear passage out of the country in exchange for the chip. The Veep decides... Okay good deal. Once again WTF? If Philip Bauer is standing there with the chip - you take him out and blow it all up. You don't need to give them the boy.

I'm guessing that next week Jack will be taking on daddy. Heaven knows what will happen. These writers are so ridiculous, I can see them letting Josh fly off with Grandpa to... where? Russia? (China's been nixed by good old Phil because they didn't deliver) Anyhow, it's hard to see what country is left that would take him. After all, if America isn't good enough for him and China gets a pass for one slip-up I can't even imagine where the next stop would be.

Next week is the finale - a 2 parter... and then it will be mercifully over. I can't wait - this has been an extremely painful season to watch.
