24 - Let's Invade Russia

Yes, I'm behind on my blogging. I've been trying to read and catch up... not doing so well, but I'm trying. Anyhow, as usual - below the fold for those who aren't interested. Okay I know I watched the show, but darn if I didn't have to hit the website for a recap.

I'm waiting for Logan to do something squirrelly. He's such a slimy snake I don't believe he's "reformed". I wanted to slap him when he said he "knows" how Jack felt about being locked up in a Chinese prison. Now try to tell me that being confined to a Presidential Retreat is the same as a Chinese prison cell... I'm surprised Jack didn't just turn in the seat and break his stupid neck. Geeze!

I was shocked when Lennox turned in the 2 guys who tried to kill the President, at significant risk to himself - jail time is a distinct possibility. Will he stick to his story even after the veiled threat from the Veep? At the beginning of the show, I would have bet money on him standing up for his "platform" and supporting the Vice President - now I'm not so sure.

Logan can't get the Russian Consul to rat out the bad guys. (Well that would be because he's in cahoots with them). So, Jack goes in and takes the guy hostage. In the meantime, what's Logan going to do? Jack just left him in the car with the driver... I'm guessing he either sits there, or they go back to his house because previews for next week show Logan back at his place.

The scene where the Veep is on the phone with Buchanan being told that Jack is creating an international incident just as the President of Russia calls him to complain... priceless. The guy didn't bargain for all this when he stepped into the office.

Jack finds out what he needs from the Consul... but I'm still trying to figure out where the hell he thought he was going. He gets the info and instead of hauling out the cell and calling CTU - he walks to the door of the room... What? Maybe he didn't get enough sleep on the trip back from China. I mean - where the hell did he think he was going? All the Russians are standing outside the door waiting to kill him, they have a camera in the room and naturally take him out before he has a chance to pass on the info.

Oddly enough Jack does get one guy to help him. Of course that guy ends up dead in yet another move I just don't understand... he walks into an empty room to call Buchanan and give Jack's message, leaves the door OPEN with his back to it. Okay - where am I missing something? Empty room, open door... which one would you turn your back on? Especially if you're a paranoid Russian.

In the meantime - in a move that is totally realistic. Karen (Buchanan's wife) who had resigned her post with the President, calls her husband. He asks where she is, she's still waiting for her plane. That so worked for me... oh yeah that's one thing they got right. When she finds out what happened to Palmer, she decides to go back to the bunker and withdraw her resignation. Her and the Veep - this should be fun. I wonder what Lennox will say.

So, now we have the prospect of a 3 drone aircraft with nukes heading out from the desert toward (one assumes) nearby cities. I wonder what cities they're going to go after... or maybe it's something else they want to hit.

Stay tuned. At least this week sucked far less than the last few. Chloe brought down a power grid for Jack and didn't ask Morris even once about his drinking. We may be getting somewhere. Next week's previews have at least one big action scene...

1 I'm dying to see if Martha Logan and Aaron are together...they seem to be.

I think Logan is going to die....

I was just as confused as you about the whole hostage thing...

This episode was better, but still not great. Maybe I was just spoiled of watching seasons 1-5 so close together. But I think next week's will be better.

2 Next week is looking like the most promising so far. I'm hoping it all picks up as the second half of the "day" gets going.

3 It sounds like 24 has jumped the shark already.

Teresa, I Hope you're at least getting to do stuff you enjoy when not here.
