24 - The End - Mercifully

Oh most definitely below the fold... So, it was the 2 hour finale. Ho-hum we're done... This was the last hurrah and it sputtered to a miserable end. How sad.

Where did we leave off... oh yeah, Josh is grabbed by Doyle to be exchanged for the stupid circuit board (OMG - it's the lamest of lame story lines - I still can't believe how bad). Poor little Josh will be collateral damage. Naturally they arrest Jack... again. How many times have they done that?

Back at the White House... or wherever they are - the Veep is wringing his hands over how to avoid war with Russia. Quite a turn around from earlier in the day when he was willing to take on the entire world. Geeze.

In the meantime Karen (wimpy assed National Security Advisor) calls her, hopefully soon to be ex, husband Bill and begs him to help Jack. Soapy conversation ensues. *sigh* He gives in. She gets CTU to help her track Jack's vehicle. Naturally Bill and Jack escape. (Nadia is shocked at this - which just shows she should never again head up CTU). Karen is arrested... oh yay! maybe she'll disappear and we won't see her again... no such luck.

Back on the beach. Josh is trying to make Doyle understand how sucky he thinks this whole thing is. Doyle wants the kid to trust him... I can't see why he should. The bad guys come, they give Doyle the box with something in it... surprise! It blows up in his face. I was shocked... shocked I tell you! Bad guys grab kid and take off just as Jack and Bill get there.

Note - if you work for CTU and are horrendously injured by a bomb, you will be expected to get up and walk back to the transport, even if you have been blinded. Just thought I'd throw that in for anyone who might consider it to be a good job prospect.

At the White House, Karen is in some sort of "holding cell" who knew they had a jail there - some old brick place... cute... wonder how many prisoners are held at the White House daily. Hmmmm...

Meanwhile, Jack has Chloe searching for oil rigs his father would have an interest in. Chloe goes to ask Morris a question and passes out flat on the floor... first thing I said was "she's pregnant". This is how the hour endeth.

ON to the last hour.

The oil rig is found... what a surprise. Bill shows himself to be a man of many talents and steals a helicopter to fly them out to the rig. Cause (naturally) the Veep is going to bomb the rig and blow up Josh all to convince the Russians that their stupid ass component is destroyed. F-18's are on the way... it will only take them 20 minutes to get there... I wonder if they're flying down from Alaska or something. Why so long?

Bill does some fancy flying at the rig and action ensues... finally we have something going on besides people blathering at each other. Jack wields the machine gun well and takes out all the guards. Go Jack! He causes an explosion that takes down the lead Chinese guy Cheng. Yeah, he's on a roll.

In the meantime, Josh is being dragged off the other end of the platform by dear old grand-dad. Jack is off to find them while Bill takes Cheng to the helicopter. Josh, being a resourceful Bauer, grabs his grandfather's gun and... YES he shoots him! Go Josh. Sadly he doesn't kill the bastard, but Jack comes up and convinces him not to. Jack sends Josh to the helicopter and chit chats with daddy.

Daddy convinces Jack he won't be able to get him off the platform, so Jack runs off leaving daddy sitting there waiting for the bombs. More fancy flying... Jack jumps onto a hanging ladder of the helicopter as it hovers off the side of the rig, just as the bombs hit. How much do you want to bet that dear old daddy didn't die on that rig. He waited for Jack to leave and then jumped on the boat sitting right next to him and got away. Sheesh! Never leave loose ends.

Jack drops into the ocean just before getting to land and takes off on his own. Bill takes the kid back to CTU.

Now at this point we still have half an hour before the show is over. We spend the next 24 minutes having one of those "Lord of the Rings" interminable endings. Holy cats. I was ready to start screaming - okay we're done let's wrap it up already!!!

Yes, Chloe is pregnant. What a shock. The Veep lets Karen and Bill off the hook. Who'd'a thunk it. Lennox goes to give her the news. Best line of the night, he tells her he'll miss her, but not if she doesn't leave. Heh.

Then we get the penultimate boring scene between Jack and Audrey's daddy then Jack and Audrey who is mercifully out like a light. We leave Jack standing on a cliff... he doesn't jump... although he should've with that story line.

Thank heaven it's done. I will not be watching next year. I may try to rent the earlier seasons and watch them. They might be worth it. But unless they totally clean house on writers and start over with people who know how to write action - there's no point in watching next year. I am NOT a fan of soaps and they really suckered me this year. Besides, what crisis could they possibly come up with to top a nuke? Everything else is small potatoes by comparison. What a shame.

1 You really should be in the conversations with me, Mo and Bou because we said all these same things. This was the lamest season finale ever.

I do recommend the earlier seasons. 1&2 were really good. 3&4 aren't as good as 1 & 2, but a hell of a lot better than this year's!!!

2 Would you believe I've never watched a single episode of that show? I *know* what it's like to get hooked on a show...happened to me with Ally McBeal. Oy. Never again.

Only TV I ever watch these days are my Britcoms (Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By) and my Sunday night cartoons (KOTH, Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad).

Just reading that list makes me feel like I watch too much. Thank goodness I don't have cable. That would be disastrous.

3 That was the saddest ending, in more ways than one. When you hope the hero dives off a cliff and ends it all, it's really over.

I knew Chloe was preggers when she didn't fight with Morris when he told her it was over. Not like her to go all girly and cry...

Oh, has anyone actually counted the times Jack was arrested in that one day? :/

I'm going to rent season one and hopefully two... they MUST be better.
