Now we're in the new place and the TV is in a more accessible location - still in the basement, but the basement is a living area in this house - rather than a fixed up hole in the ground. So, I've been catching some shows... Most of the stuff that's on doesn't interest me in the least - but I have found that I really like Alton Brown who does Good Eats on the Food Network. The guy just cracks me up - what a nut!
Otherwise - I haven't been interested in what's on and I get bored quickly - then I end up back in front of the computer... a much better place in my opinion.
What I really wish is that we had our stereo working - it has a radio receiver... in many cases I prefer radio to television and this was certainly emphasized last night during the baseball game... NO not the controversial play between the Sox and the Angels - don't really care about them at all... it was the Cardinal's game that was giving me fits.
I found out last night that the television coverage of baseball has gotten even worse since I last looked in. I will admit that I came into the middle of the Cardinal / Astros game - watched about 5 minutes and said "the hell with it!"
In that 5 minutes there were 3 guys up to bat... of which I saw about 1 actual pitch for each one. They were too busy cutting away and showing us clips of other things - like a short interview with the Cardinal's manager... and some other idiotic thing they had concocted to fill screen time. Apparently the game itself isn't good enough - it's become like the Olympics where you don't see the competition... noooo you see up close and personals about the people competing - almost as if the competition itself isn't really good enough. Not only that - but while these little vignettes were playing - one of the batters came to the plate - was struck out and the announcers never even mentioned his name!!!
Nope - I want radio announcers who MUST tell people what is going on because we can't see it. At least then I'll know who's batting, what the count might be and have a much better feel for the game. After all - even when they "show" the game on TV - it's mostly close-ups of the nostril hairs of the pitcher and the batter - the occasional cut to a guy on base (which base is a mystery because it's so close you can't tell unless you look at the little box at the top of the screen).
No baseball television coverage sucks pond water - I want to listen... now all we have to do is unpack the stereo stuff... it's always something.

Sadly, that does NOT work with satellite TV, since the radio is about 2 seconds ahead of the picture, and it's quite disorienting.
