Turn Off the TV

All I've been hearing about for the past few days is some stupid commercial that ABC aired either before or during Monday night football. The story has very very tiresomely been on the net and talk radio like some sort of rash. Does anyone have an ointment that will make it go away?... Didn't think so.

Okay - I have NOT seen the commercial - I don't watch television much at all. But here is my suggestion. If there are going to be standards - you know, the kind that are assumed to be in place currently... then will the morons producing shows and commercials PLEASE STICK WITH THE STANDARDS UNTIL THEY ARE CHANGED!!!

What is happening? Well, certain standards are assumed to be in place by the majority of the people in this country. (I know it's just so stupid of all these sheeple to think that if rules are in place, people will follow them, but what are you gonna do? ) Because of these rules, they feel a certain comfort in being able to watch television - and for those with children - allowing the children to watch. What could they possibly be thinking???

It appears that the entertainment industry (such as it is) has decided that they don't like the rules. As far as they are concerned - that's the end of the discussion. Period. Don't argue with them you small minded, backward, hicks! They are going to show whatever they damned well please whenever they want to - so get used to it. After all, you can always turn the channel!

Um - one problem - turn the channel when? How do people know what's going to pop onto their screen when people start shedding clothes without warning? Let's see we've had a boob shot of a boob. We've had (from what I hear) a dropped towel. Is the next shot going to be a couple of them hopping onto the nearest training table and screwing their brains out? Just wondering you know. Where does it stop? Or does it stop? Do we get an option to opt out? Or do we have to watch television bimbos and football jocks humping before the game?

My option is just not to watch at all. If I don't watch, I don't have to hear any of the commercials, I don't have to see people I didn't intend to see, showing body parts I'm not at all interested in seeing (no Nicolette Sheridan does NOT turn me on and I understand that Terrel Owens was fully clad - so this does nothing for me!)

I prefer that the standards be dropped - then everyone would know - you watch any commercial television at your own risk. Period. Then no one could complain about seeing parts of people they don't have any interest in seeing. Then I wouldn't have to listen to radio news babes complain that they don't have kids, so why should they have to watch television made for 7 year olds. Oddly enough she never said when the 7 year olds should have their turn, but hey they're kids and they don't count... right? right!

Well, having raised 2 kids - I can tell you, it's a tough job. It's a damned near impossible job. Because, if you want to let your kid have a bit of time to be a child and not a miniature adult - people smirk at you and call you a small minded hick who doesn't want to let anyone have any fun. So, for all you small minded hicks out there - just turn off the television. Rent or buy DVD's of kid entertainment - read books - go outside and play with your kids.

Wonder how long it will be before the entertainment industry is providing assurances of kid friendly content to get you back... All they need to do is let people know the content so they have the option of not watching - so far we have gotten content, but no warning.... not fair.

Hit them in the pocketbook (ratings) and they will notice. Honest. Now wasn't that easy? Can we PLEASE talk about something else?
