Firefly

I believe I've mentioned in some other posts that beloved husband and I are finally getting around to watching Firefly (oops - I should mention that this link automatically plays a video short from the show!) which is currently showing on Saturday nights in hi-def on Universal HD channel. We're doing the weekly show for several reasons. First - we get to watch it for the first time in HD - which really is excellent! Second - it's the first show I've ever watched that I am enjoying so much, I'm still giggling over bits of it several days later. I want to stretch this out because I know it will end shortly.

After a couple of years watching the extremely frustrating 24... (which I will not waste time on ever again) not to mention all the mediocre to really hideous shows that have been presented over the years as "entertainment", this show is so good I'm having a hard time believing anyone actually approved it to be broadcast on television ever!

Those who have seen the show and love it, will know why I'm laughing... They showed "Our Mrs. Reynolds" this last Saturday. I will only say "Vera" and "You kissed her didn't you."

There is always a twist with every show that is completely unexpected. And in my entire history of watching television - which includes watching avidly as a kid... I can't remember a show I've enjoyed more. I'm very sorry it only lasted 14 episodes - what was Fox thinking!

It's also the only television show I will take the trouble to buy. If you haven't seen it - may I recommend that you at least rent it. Personally, I'd cut to the chase and buy it - the series is less than $30 from Amazon (BTW - checking out Amazon, it has a 5 star rating with over 3000 reviews - that is amazing!).

Now, I have neglected to read any blogs for about 24 hours. Time to get myself reading again.

1 We're both fans of the show, as I think I've commented before. My personal favorite ep is "Jaynestown" and, if they're going in order according to the many FF-obsessed sites (complete scripts on some), you should see it next.

"Cult status" is the phrase they use a lot when writing about this show. Joss Whedon t-shirts, for cryin' out loud.

2 Yes, I believe Jaynestown is next... although I think they're skipping a week (boo - hiss!) because they have some other thing running... they do some sports so maybe it's a sporting event, I don't remember now.

3 I love this series. I'm so pissed they only made one season. Everyone I've loaned my DVDs of the series and the movie Serenity (Watch after you've seen the series, it's much funnier) has loved it.

4 So far I've purchased the series on DVD...Twice. I lost the first one because "My dog ate it!". Seriously! I came home from work one day and found my beloved DVD with frickin' teeth marks in it, so I bought it again.

Once you see the movie Serenity, you'll totally want to kill a FOX executive for not letting him (Joss) tell the story throughout the T.V. series.

Glad to have you as another "BrownShirt".

5 They re-released Serenity in a "special edition" that has footage of River's indoctrination sessions.

Dammit... looks like I'll have two copies of the movie now

6 I loved this show... and then the movie. I ended up buying both! I still haven't figured out how the crappy shows can stay on and the good ones get cancelled. That's just not right. *huff*

7 I saw the movie in the theater and absolutely LOVED it. Then my sister gave me the TV series on DVD. So I watched it all in the wrong order ... which I mildly regret ;-) I'm glad you are doing it in proper order - and am sooooo sorry that Joss didn't get to do more of it.

8 I never watch TV so I'm always clueless about which shows are good and which ones bite. I did, however, watch Firefly. After numerous people recommended it to me, I finally broke down and bought the DVD...and loved it. The movie is good, too.

Two other good shows that got cancelled before their time: "Dead Like Me" and "Arrested Development".
