Thanksgiving Comes First

Thanksgiving happens to be my favorite holiday of the year.  I've said this before.  Why?  Because it's the one holiday where nothing is demanded except a good meal and maybe some TV time AND if you're lucky, you get a 4 day weekend.  What's not to like? (except being stuck with annoying relatives - that doesn't happen to me)

In any case, for the past 20 years or so, Christmas has over shadowed Thanksgiving.  Every year, the Christmas decorations, music, Santa and all the other gew-gaws that make up the December holiday - completely cut out Thanksgiving.  Every year it gets earlier and earlier... *sigh*

I, and many many other people have decried this for years.  Christmas was special when I was a kid because it wasn't a nearly year round holiday.  When I was growing up, you knew... the DAY AFTER Thanksgiving, all the great things about Christmas would suddenly appear.  Trees in the stores, Santa, lights, ornaments.

Now these Christmas things start to appear the day after Labor Day.  The malls are already decked out for Christmas - along with all the stores.  I'm tired of it.  This would be one of the reasons I dislike the brick and mortar stores... why would I want Christmas shoved down my throat in September, October, and even November? I'm tired of it already!

Well, there is a blogger who is trying to do something about this.  Head on over to Suldog's place.  Check out what he's doing about it. If you are so inclined and have a blog, let your voice be heard!

Let's make Christmas special again.  Wouldn't that be nice.

1 Thanks for the direction, I'll go over! That really frosts my giblets!

I was in Michael's over a week ago trying to find some table decor for Thanksgiving and the entire store had been turned over to Christmas, or so it seemed!
I finally found a quarter of an aisle [one side only] with a nasty collection of Thanksgiving stuff. Ew.

2 Thanks for adding your voice. Maybe we can make a difference if we keep it going. Happy Thanksgiving!

3 I am with you about the massive advertising and takeover of the stores and malls.... But.... I do appreciate that some Christmas stuff gets put on display in November, as that is when I am assembling packages for the marines and soldiers. Ya gotta send a tree and some decorations, right? Best to ship by Thanksgiving (or JUST after) to be sure the stuff arrives, particularly when you are doing a mass mailing... It is November 14, and my living room is FULL of stuff for shipping. Anyway...

4 LOL - well jxk... there is that.  Of course, they can put out Christmas stuff without doing a whole "let's decorate the entire store" thing.  If you know what I mean.  There are degrees.
