The Tax Man Cometh
And since I don't happen to be a favored person on the White House staff, have a cushy Cabinet position, or sit in the HoR/Senate - where it's been expected lately that one doesn't have to do such mundane things as pay taxes (that's for the world's peons) - we have to get our act together an send in the tax return.
My husband has been working on the papers we send to the accountant and tonight I've been digging up receipts. He needs to make copies of a few things then we get it to the accountant who will send us the results.
Almost done.
Are we having fun yet?

Fun? Probably not. I refuse to do our taxes before April 1st. We have to pay a little bit, and I'll not give the tax folks any more of my money until I have to.

Because I work at home, our return is a bit more complicated. So it goes to the accountant who pulls all the info together. Then we get it back and have to make sure all looks right before sending it in.
Every year I send it in within the last few days before the 15th (don't want to fight the crowds on the last day and I always get a receipt to show we mailed it).

The one time I'm glad to be on the low end of the financial totem pole is when we file taxes. We've never itemized or anything complicated. I think my head might explode if we did.

Lee Ann - that's why we have an accountant to pull it all together for us. It nearly drove my poor husband insane and I finally told him to find someone to do it for us. It was worth the extra money to be sure we got things right. Which is an apt commentary on the tax system - geeze.

Hey, you could always join that freaky group that insists that we shouldn't have to pay taxes, so they don't! Then you can see what happens... ;-)
We'll apply for an extension like last year. Our accountant has to jump through hoops as my husband has a partner and there are all these odd logistics... ours, partner's, theirs combined, for money.
Last year, our business took a HUGE hit 3/4 way through the year and we got a ton of money back since none of it saw it coming. This year, we were able to get the quarterly payments spot on, so not only is business off a good 30%, but we're not getting a dime back.

Ah to have the time and extra cash to pick fights with the IRS... LOL. Not me - I have no interest in fighting with them, but I do wish it was easier to do this stuff. We don't have to do an extension, at least not so far, but it's all the fiddly details and papers that drive me nuts.
