When A Company Does Something Right

We're always quick to jump on companies when things go wrong - and while we may just mention it when things go right, we seldom say more than a few words to our friends.  But when someone goes out of their way to do good things, I think the employee and the company should get the credit. The employee for doing such a great job and the company for hiring them.

When I headed down to Tennessee, I rented a car from Enterprise.  It was the usual (at least in my experience).  Decent smaller car, quick walk around, spending extra on insurance because I have NO idea what might happen if I try to claim anything via my insurance in Massachusetts.  (never worried about that when I was in Illinois - go figure).

In any case, I believe I noted that I was in a bit of a hurry when we were dropping the car off at the airport on Sunday.  I was feeling "late" and I knew I needed to eat (and grab a mocha if at all possible) no headache, but that was on the way.

While thinking of all these things and in the usual crush that is rental car return on Sunday at a busy airport... I left my coat in the back of the car.  Yes, I know better, I should have opened the back door and checked - but I didn't.

Not only that, I didn't realize it until I was just ready to go through security.  Unfortunately, even with the fairly swift progress I was worried about making it to the gate and not being bumped from my flight.

So, I got in line, made it through and down to the gate where the plane was in and would be boarding at any time. That's when I called the local Enterprise.

The poor guy who answered the phone... he deserves a medal.  Not only could I NOT find my contract paper (only the receipt from turning in the car), I had a headache and was desperately trying to remember the type of car I rented.  Luckily someone had asked me at one point - don't remember who - so even though it took a few minutes I did eventually remember the make and model of car.

He took my number and about 5 minutes later called me back - he had found my coat!

He asked if I could meet the bus and he could send it over, however I had to tell him I was very sorry, but the plane had started boarding - there wasn't time for me wait for the coat.  So, he took my address and FedEx'd it to me!  It arrived yesterday.

He didn't have to do that - he could've called me back and said he couldn't find it. He could've blown me off.  After all it was my fault.  He went the extra mile and not only found the coat but had it delivered to my door.

Tomorrow, I will be sending an email to corporate to let them know they have some very fine people working for them. I'm very impressed.
