The Iceman Cometh
We've been alternating between light rain and light sleet today. The temp has been hovering a little above 32 degrees (that's Fahrenheit for those in other countries) so the ground is a bit slushy and the water is freezing on bushes,

lamp posts,

trees,

among other things. Later in the day I went out to the store for a couple of needed items - roads were fine. But it's basically been a pretty dull day here. Too bad I have no interest in ice skating.

Let's Hear It For Global Warming
First we had this:
Pharmacy Roof Collapses
Then there was this:
Gas station canopy collapse caused by weekend weather
Today there was this:
Classes Canceled After Cracks In Roof Supports Found
Just think how many buildings the warmer weather will save. Bring on that Global Warming!
Pharmacy Roof Collapses
Fire officials said the roof collapsed because of the weight of the snow on it and because of the heavy rain that followed the recent snowstorms.
Then there was this:
Gas station canopy collapse caused by weekend weather
WORCESTER, Mass. -- A canopy covering a gas station crashed down under the weight of two winter storms.
Today there was this:
Classes Canceled After Cracks In Roof Supports Found
Officials blamed the damage at Gilmore Academy on heavy snow and an old building. The cracks were discovered Monday morning, and they are in the section of roof over the school's gymnasium and cafeteria.

Let It Continue to Snow
No pictures this time. It's still coming down in a fine powder, but the heavy stuff has finished up. We got about 4 more inches on top of the 8 we got a couple days ago. About the amount predicted (surprise), but I had to make my own soy mocha this morning... no point in driving in this crap.
My friend Barb told me to buy some Yaxtrax for walking on the icy stuff. I was able to find some at a local sporting goods store (EMS is the closest to me). Another friend of mine said she found them for a few dollars less at Campmor.com but I don't know what the delivery charge would be and I didn't look because I already had mine by then.
I had to head to the bottom of the driveway (still snow/ice covered about an inch of slippery stuff from the first "snow" we got that was supposed to melt off but didn't) to get the trash can. Our driveway is long and has 2 slippery hills that are treacherous for a person on foot even when heavily sanded. The yaxtrax worked great not one single slip.
Apparently lots of people know about them, but this was the first I'd heard. Anyhow, if you live where it's icy and snowy, you may want to consider investing the $20 for a pair of the low end version. They seem to work great - although you aren't supposed to walk on bare concrete with them.
It might save you from a fall on winter covered sidewalks and driveways.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
The predictions have ranged from 3 to 9 inches of the white stuff today and 1 to 2 feet on Sunday.
About an hour and a half after the snow started, I decided to take some pictures.

This is out front. I think there's about 3 inches of snow now.

This is out the downstairs back window.

This is the view out my office door.
Very pretty - especially as I don't have to drive in it.

Note to Self...
Make sure to get everything necessary when grocery shopping tomorrow...
Season's First Snow Storm Heads Toward New England
Yeah, that would be us. First real snow of the season, should be fun.

In north central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, 6 to 12 inches of snow could fall.
Yeah, that would be us. First real snow of the season, should be fun.
