Mac Techies! A Question for You

I can't remember the Unix command and for some reason am not searching for the right thing...  one of those days I guess.

My DNS on my Mac went wonky today.  A reboot fixed it, but I was looking for something similar to Windows ipconfig that would list out my settings for me.  Anyone know what that would be in a Mac set up?

On The Road - Trusty Computer At the Ready (Now Updated)

Well, I'm not on the road, but today Fox News had a story about wi-fi for travelers.

Wireless Cybercriminals Target Clueless Vacationers

It must be a slow news day. I'm not sure why they've suddenly decided to chat it up about this topic. However, since they decided to bring it up, let's see what they got right AND... what they missed.

Vacationers on their way to fun in the sun, or already there, think they're using designated Wi-Fi access points. But instead, they're signing on to fraudulent networks and hand-delivering everything on their laptops to the crooks.

Well, kinda sorta maybe. What people are doing is not being careful about the connections they make. What the hackers are doing is simply keeping track of the data flowing through their connection. They can then pick up usernames and passwords sent in the clear along with any other data that you look at through a non-encrypted channel. As always any shared folders are accessible to anyone out there when you are connected to the net without a firewall.

This is gonna get a bit long, so I'm putting the rest below the fold. If you haven't thought too much about your wireless connection when away from home, you may want to continue reading to find out what to look for and how to protect yourself.
